Rick Moore, a veteran firefighter, first tried making brittle after his wife, Theresa, taught him the process. Rick soon began creating a process of his own. He took his brittle to friends and into the fire station where he worked. He tweaked the recipe over and over based on the feedback he received.
When a friend suggested they start selling the brittle, the business was born and it didn't take long for it to boom. Rick's Brittle is now Theresa's full-time job. Since retiring from the fire department Rick now works as AHA Training Center Coordinator for Piedmont Healthcare but he's still very active selling the brittle on weekends. It started with half pound bags at local craft shows. It's now grown to multiple varieties, craft shows and fairs around the state and even a booming internet business without boundaries.
Rick and Theresa's peanut brittle recipe now produces some of the world's very best. The secret recipe begins with light corn syrup and is completed with a variety of ingredients. There are now a wide variety of brittles from traditional peanut to pecan, cashew, chocolate pecan and even coconut brittle. Samplers are often surprised by the product's airy crispness. It's delightful!
The Moores produce the old-fashioned, homemade peanut brittle fresh for every order. Sometimes they sell as much as 250 pounds in a single day at fairs and festivals. The brittle has become so successful that it's spreading like wildfire—a fire not even a firefighter with Rick's experience can put out!
